Dubai, UAE – For the first time since its launch in 2007, Salik toll fees are set to increase during peak hours as part of Dubai’s strategy to enhance traffic flow. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Thursday that the changes, which include variable toll and parking rates, will take effect in 2025.
Under the new Variable Road Toll Pricing system, Salik fees will rise to AED 6 during weekday morning (6am–10am) and evening (4pm–8pm) peak hours. Off-peak toll charges, between 10am–4pm and 8pm–1am, will remain AED 4. Motorists will still enjoy toll-free passage between 1am and 6am. On Sundays, excluding public holidays or major events, the toll will remain AED 4 throughout the day and toll-free overnight.
In addition to toll changes, parking fees will also see a shift by March 2025. Premium parking spots will cost AED 6 per hour, while standard spaces will be priced at AED 4 per hour during peak times (8am–10am and 4pm–8pm). Rates for off-peak hours will remain unchanged.
The RTA’s comprehensive strategy aims to reduce congestion, encourage carpooling, and promote public transport usage. However, the adjustments have sparked concerns among residents about potential impacts on household budgets, particularly for those with fixed schedules.
Some commuters are planning to wake up earlier or delay their trips to avoid higher tolls, while others are considering carpooling or public transportation as cost-saving alternatives. Employers may also face requests for increased transport allowances to help offset these additional expenses.
The new policies reflect Dubai’s commitment to improving urban mobility while addressing the city’s growing population and traffic demands. Motorists are encouraged to plan their travel schedules and explore alternative commuting options to adapt to the changes
