Al Shindagha Revamp: New Bridge Opens on Sheikh Rashid Road

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a new milestone in the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project with the opening of a 605-meter, two-lane bridge on Sheikh Rashid Road. The bridge, designed to handle 3,200 vehicles per hour, connects Al Mina Street to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, easing traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest areas.

This marks the second bridge completed under the project’s fourth phase, which aims to enhance traffic flow and reduce travel times in the Al Shindagha Corridor. Once fully implemented, this phase will include four bridges spanning 3.1 kilometers with a combined capacity to handle 19,400 vehicles per hour.

The first bridge of this phase, stretching 1,300 meters with three lanes and a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour, opened in December 2024, linking Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to Al Mina Street and Falcon Intersection. More bridges are on the way, including a 780-meter bridge to ease traffic from Al Mina Street to Al Wasl Road and a fourth bridge connecting Jumeirah Street to Falcon Intersection, set for completion by the end of 2025.

Beyond the bridges, the entire 13-kilometer Al Shindagha Corridor is undergoing significant upgrades. This includes 4.8 kilometers of new roads, improved surface intersections, pedestrian bridges, enhanced street lighting, advanced drainage systems, and smart traffic technologies. These improvements are projected to slash travel time along the corridor from the current average of 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030.

The project will serve as a vital connection for key developments like Dubai Islands, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid, benefiting around one million residents. It is also expected to yield Dh45 billion in savings through reduced travel times over the next 20 years, contributing to Dubai’s long-term economic and infrastructural growth.

As Dubai continues to modernize its road network, the Al Shindagha Corridor revamp underscores the city’s commitment to creating a faster, safer, and more connected urban environment.
