Dubai Metro to Start Early for Dubai Marathon on January 12

Enhanced metro schedule ensures smooth transport for participants and spectators

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced extended operational hours for the Dubai Metro on Sunday, January 12, in support of the highly anticipated Dubai Marathon. Trains will begin service at 5am, three hours earlier than usual, to accommodate the large crowds expected for the event.

The Dubai Marathon, now in its 24th edition, will kick off at 6am, attracting thousands of runners from around the globe. Participants will tackle three race options: a 4km fun run, a 10km challenge, and the full 42km marathon. The event will start and finish on Umm Suqeim Road, opposite the Madinat Jumeirah, offering scenic views of Dubai’s iconic landmarks.

A highlight of this year’s marathon is the return of Lelisa Desisa, the 2013 champion and former World Marathon winner. The 34-year-old Ethiopian runner achieved a personal record of 2:04:45 in Dubai, a career milestone he hopes to replicate on Sunday.

Organized under the Dubai Sports Council, the marathon has been a staple in the emirate’s sporting calendar since 1998. The enhanced metro schedule aims to ensure convenient and efficient transportation for participants and spectators, reaffirming Dubai’s commitment to hosting world-class events.

Whether you’re running or cheering from the sidelines, the Dubai Marathon promises an unforgettable experience this weekend.
